New Jamie Oliver beach-side Cornwall restaurant

May 21, 2006

Just back from sampling the tucker at Fifteen Cornwall, Jamie Oliver's latest venture.  The restaurant has cool decor, a nice open plan kitchen and big windows to show off the sea views from Watergate Bay.  The food was good and had plenty of tasty local ingredients.  However, prices were high and comparable to Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant just along the coast in Padstow.  In reality, I suspect that there's enough customers to fill both of these celebrity chef's west country dining tables.

A great surf beach discovered

May 21, 2006

It's always great to come across a new surf beach.  Webury beach, on the south Devon coast near Plymouth is one of those hidden little coves which offers great surfing conditions without the crowds (most of the time!)  There's also a cottage right on the beach, Mill Cottage, which can be rented from The National Trust.  Having stayed the night I can recommend it – spectacular sea views and waves splashing the windows…see image below
